Batik Wonogiren

Around year 1910, a palace officer of Pura Mangkunegaran, Kanjeng Wonogiren, created Batik Wonogiren with the distinctive crushed pattern (remukan). Although the creation of the crushed pattern was found unintentionally, the people thought that the crushed pattern as an authentic pattern of Batik Wonogiren.

In order to promote the development of Batik Wonogiren, Mayor of Wonogiri have issued a decree that Batik Wonogiren had four main patterns; based on dasaran jene (yellow-brown base), babaran pecah (lines of crushed pieces), corak bledak, and sekaran (paintings of flowers). Nevertheless, the development of Batik Wonogiren did not focus to the four main characteristics. The Batik craftswomen have developed other pattern such as Truntum, Sidomukti, Sidoasih, and Parang Barong.
